Butchers Hill by Laura Lippman is a Tess Monaghan novel.
I’m enjoying each Tess M book more than the previous. I love the characters as much as the mysteries, especially TM’s eccentric and diverse family. This book like the others I’ve read feature Baltimore as another main character – from its tourist haunts, to the stark income gap between its residents, and intriguing places where the locals go (which I’m hoping are not fictional). The mysteries in this volume are solid and not overly predictable. Tess gets to flex her developing P.I. muscles while she tracks down long lost children for 2 different clients from very different circumstances, with hidden but in the end, similar motivations. Add in family drama, the adorable greyhound Esskay, and a few murders, and it’s a great summer read. I can’t wait to get the next volume in the series from the library.
