This well researched nonfiction history of the original Wonder Woman comics is truly stranger than fiction. Lepore meticulously ties the comic to the philosophy of her creator(s): the inventor of the lie detector and his incredibly accomplished wives. The comic is tied directly to the women’s suffrage and birth control movements, and the very nontraditional family arrangement of its main creators (including Margaret Sanger’s niece). Part biography, part history – all fascinating!
