When starting Captivated by You by Sylvia Day, my hopes weren’t not incredibly high for a literary work of art, but I did expect it to satisfy my thirst for psychologically picking apart the dynamics of the relationship between Gideon and Eva. Unfortunately, this was not a very satisfying feat. The story is about the disturbing relationship between two socialites with money and a lifestyle in the public eye. The two are trying to overcome their past (which was the aspect of the book I did enjoy), but as a result, often struggle with having control over the other. This element of control was romanticized, which worries me for young adults who may pick up this book and believe that forcing around your significant other is actually a way of showing love.
