This was a delightful and moving summer read. On the one-year anniversary of the passing of Miriam, his wife of 40 years, Arthur Pepper decides he must finally clean out her portion of their closet. Inside a pair of boots, he finds a gold charm bracelet that he has never seen his wife wear. Arthur has been stuck in his routines and quiet life unable to get over the loss of his beloved wife. The discovery of a telephone number on one of the charms inspires Arthur to call. One charm’s story leads to another one’s origin. Arthur finds himself learning things he never knew about his late wife’s life before they met. It prompts him to journey outside his familiar surroundings and to travel places he never imagined he would go. Finding out about Miriam’s past opens Arthur to new life experiences, the opportunity to repair and renew relationships with his adult children and to see that there is a life after loss.
